An International Summer School entitled “Practice Research in Child Welfare Studies” will be held at the Institute for Lifecourse and Society, NUI Galway between Monday 21st August -Thursday 24th August 2017. Hosted by Professor Caroline Mcgregor , UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre, NUI Galway and Professor Mirja Satka, Heikki Waris Institute, Helsinki, the summer school aims to provide a platform for researchers, graduate students and practitioners interested in the field of practice research and child welfare to:
- Learn more about practice research approaches with a focus on doing research with and/or as practitioners and community partners
- Learn from and engage with experienced practice researchers to stimulate thought, reflection and discussion
- Develop their own work in this field by working on a project or a paper as part of the summer school. This can be at any stage of development from idea to writing up
- Create a dynamic and inspiring learning environment for peer learning on collaborative practice research
Summer School Keynote Speakers:
Professor Mirja Satka - Professor of Social Work Practice Research at the University of Helsinki in Finland.
Professor Caroline McGregor - Director of Social Work at NUI Galway, School of Political Science and Sociology and Senior Researcher at the School's UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre.
Dr Kenneth Burns - College lecturer and Deputy Director of the Master of Social Work course at University College Cork, Ireland.
Dr Sarah Donnelly - Assistant Professor of Social Work in the School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, University College Dublin
Dr Liam White - Principal for Prevention, Partnership and Family Support with the Child and Family Agency Tusla in County Mayo.
Dr Laura Yliruka - Development manager at the Heikki Waris Institute a joint research and development structure of municipalities in the Helsinki Metropolitan area and the discipline of social work at the University of Helsinki.
